About These Passenger Cars

The 2432-4-5-6 Passenger Car series (marked by their silver bodies and red lettering) was first introduced by Lionel in 1954 and was sold for five years (through 1958). However two of the cars were made available as separate sale items in 1959. Although all four cars in the series were available in 1954, it took until 1955 for Lionel to offer all four in a single set. These attractive 4-car sets consisted of the 2432 Clifton Vista Dome, the 2434 Newark Pullman, the 2435 Elizabeth Pullman, and the 2436 Summit Observation Car. The names came from towns in New Jersey, home of Lionel. The 3-car sets consisted of the Vista Dome and the Observation Car plus either Pullman.

In 1957, Lionel replaced the 2436 Summit with the (now scarcer) 2436 Mooseheart. The Elizabeth is the hardest car to find in this series.
