3672 Operating Bosco Car (1959 - 60) |
---|
About This Freight Car
The 3672 Corn Products Co. Car (or Bosco Car) was introduced by Lionel in 1959 and was sold for two years (through 1960). There are two known versions of this car: the more common one has an unpainted dark-yellow body, while the harder-to-find version has a painted dark-yellow body. Each one was decorated with brown heat-stamped lettering and a brown & white "BOSCO" decal. The roof and doors are dark brown. The metal platform (or milkstand) is painted yellow and brown and has a chrome-plated floor. Seven cans (painted yellow with "BOSCO" stamped in red) were included. When energized, the doors open and the milkman (clad in white, of course) delivers seven cans of Bosco to the platform. A remote control track with an unload button is required to create this action.

Additional Details
The 3672 Bosco Car is essentially a sibling of the 3662 Milk Car but is more attractive and much harder to find. An original platform (Lionel's catalog number 3672-50) in nice shape is also very challenging to locate and the original "BOSCO" cans are extremely rare. The box is also very difficult to track down and is one of the few packaging items in the postwar era with a picture of the product on the outside! You can see this interesting box in the photo above. The Bosco Car came with bar-end trucks. Note that repro cans and repro platforms are available. This car's mechanism works quite well and is one of the more reliable operating cars produced by Lionel.
