About This Space & Military Series Car

The 6463 Rocket Fuel Tank Car was introduced by Lionel in 1962 and was sold for two years (through 1963). The car is painted white with red lettering. This 2-dome Tank Car is part of the "Space and Military" series.

The 6463 came with AAR trucks with operating couplers in 1962. In 1963, it came with one AAR truck with an operating coupler and one arch-bar truck with a non-operating coupler. This strange combination is yet another example of Lionel using up their existing parts inventory in their financially-troubled waning years. This car should be handled with extreme care as the lettering smears easily and is susceptible to fading. Therefore, caution should be used if it is necessary to clean the 6463. In addition, the ends or the side catwalks are often broken. Because it is a painted car, it chips easily. For these reasons, this car is somewhat difficult to find in collector-quality condition.
