6464-200 Pennsylvania Boxcar (1954 - 1955, 1969) |
---|
About This Freight Car
The 6464-200 Pennsylvania Boxcar was initially introduced by Lionel in 1954 and was sold for two years (through 1955). After a 13-year gap, Lionel re-issued the Pennsylvania boxcar in 1969 but with some modifications. The 6464-200 came with a Tuscan-painted body with white heat-stamped lettering. The Pennsylvania keystone (also heat-stamped in white) served to further dress this car. Variations include different body types and the use of two different paints (glossy and flat). The 6464-200 boxcars made in 1954 & 1955 had single-block doors and had the built date of "5-53" on the car's side. All 6464-200 boxcars came numbered "6464" on the side. (The "-200" suffix does not appear on the car.)

Additional Details
The 6464-200 boxcar was re-issued in 1969 and featured the following changes: a new body style (referred to as Type IV by collectors), multiblock doors and the absence of the built date. The 1969 version came in either a "Hillside" or a "Hagerstown" original box. A "Classic-type" original box was provided with the earlier versions. The Pennsylvania boxcar always came with bar-end trucks.
