6468 Baltimore & Ohio Boxcar (1953 - 1955) |
---|
About This Freight Car
The 6468 Baltimore & Ohio Double-door Automobile Boxcar was initially introduced
by Lionel in 1953 and was sold for three years (through 1955). The "standard issue" 6468 came
with a blue-painted body (either flat blue or glossy blue) with white heat-stamped lettering.
The white heat-stamped B & O logo served to further dress this car.
In 1955 Lionel advertised its Set #1535W as having a brown 6464-50 Minneapolis & St. Louis
Boxcar. They apparently ran out of the 6464-50 boxcar and decided to paint 6468 shells in brown
and use them as a substitute to be faithful to their advertising -- at least color-wise. The
result was the creation of a scarce variation -- the Tuscan 6468.

Additional Details
The Tuscan version came in a very hard-to-find "classic-style" original box that had an "X" rubber-stamped on the end flaps to avoid confusion with the regular blue cars. The B & O Double-door Boxcar always came with bar-end trucks.
