943 Exploding Ammo Dump (1959 - 61)

About This Accessory

The 943 Exploding Ammo Dump was introduced by Lionel in 1959 and was sold for three years (through 1961). The Ammo Dump was sold as a separate sale item but it was also included in a few sets. It was also packaged with the 443 Missile Launching Platform. The mechanism is similar to the old-fashioned, spring-loaded mousetrap. The metal base, which measures 6 inches deep by 6 inches wide, is gray and is hidden from view when properly assembled. The bunker itself is green with white lettering and measures 6 inches square by 1 3/4 inches high. This "Space & Military" accessory is hard to find complete.

Additional Details

The 943 Ammo Dump -- also called the "Exploding Bunker" -- was designed to be used with other Lionel items, including the 44 Army (or 45 USMC) Mobile Missile Launcher, the 6650 Rocket Launching Car and the 470 Launching Platform. The 448 Missile Firing Range Platform would also be an ideal companion piece to the 943.
